You have already noticed that the number of Bosch eBike batteries sold on eBay or similar portals has increased recently. Based on our analysis, these are often batteries that are reported by Bosch as faulty and have been prepared for disposal by Bosch. For some batteries sold on eBay, we proved that they did not match the original state. Thus it was not possible to exclude in individual cases that the batteries in question presented safety risks.
To further limit the possibilities of these safety interventions, the "Battery disabling" function has been included in the diagnostic software. Thanks to this function, the battery is suspended, which means that it no longer supplies electricity and can no longer be recharged.
Warning: this procedure can not be canceled! However, before definitive disabling, it is necessary to confirm 3 times, in order to avoid unintentional disabling.
When should the battery be disabled?
The batteries must be disabled
• when the Bosch eBike service team decides to recognize the battery as defective and replace it due to the warranty,
without withdrawing it.
• when a customer delivers a used battery to be disposed of outside the warranty period.
When should the battery not be disabled?
Batteries must not be disabled
• when the decision regarding the guarantee has not yet been taken. Bosch does not provide any compensation in case
of batteries disabled in an early or involuntary way!
What is the procedure when the Bosch eBike service team decides to disable a battery?
In this case, the Bosch service assistant will ask you to disable the battery and present the diagnostic report for our information. No further tests are required. The battery can be disposed of as usual through common recycling systems. Please do not deliver batteries to third parties.
Therefore, we ask you to help us by disabling all Bosch eBike batteries to be disposed of. This procedure is a valuable contribution to the containment of illegal re-use.
